The Cultured Canine
These are just a few recipes which you can bake for your canine friend as a special treat!

Tuna Training Treats:

2 6-oz. cans tuna in water, do not drain
2 eggs
1 to 1 1/2 cups flour
1 tbsp garlic powder
 parmesan cheese

Mash tuna and water in a bowl with a fork and then liquefy, with eggs, in blender. Add more water if needed to liquefy completely. Pour into bowl and add flour and garlic powder; consistency should be like cake mix. Spread into greased pan. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Use a pizza cutter to slice into teeny squares. They freeze beautifully and the dogs love them!

Peanut Butter Goodness:

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour

1 1/2 cups white flour

1/2 cup peanut butter (all-natural or organic)

1 cup water

2 tablespoons oil

Preheat the oven to 350. Combine oil, peanut butter and water. Add flour, one cup at a time, forming a dough. Knead dough into firm ball and roll to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into 3 to 4 inch pieces. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Makes 2 1/2 dozen cookies.

Cottage Cheese Balls:

2/3 cup cottage cheese

6 tsp. milk

6 tsp. flaxseed/vegetable oil
1 egg yolk

4 cups oatmeal

Mix all ingredients and form small balls. Bake  at 350 for 30 minutes until crunchy. Optional: add other cheeses, liver, bacon or ham.

Muttloaf:

2 lb        ground turkey
6 oz       tomato paste
3 tbsp    minced fresh garlic
1 tbsp    basil
1            egg
1 cup     rolled oats

Preheat oven to 350. Mix all ingredients in a large bowl. Grease a loaf pan, add mixture and bake for one hour.

Frozen Doggie Treats:

1 tablespoons honey
3 tablespoons peanut butter
1 ripe banana
16 ounces plain yogurt

Mix the peanut butter, honey, and fruit together until well blended—mash with a fork or use the blender. Add the fruit mixture to the yogurt and mix well. Freeze in ice cube trays.

Dizzy Chicken:

Purchase a roast chicken from IGA or Supervalue, pick apart and freeze. Bake the skin at 300 for 25 mins. It's quick, easy, cheap ($8) and the dogs love it. Makes lots!

Meaty Treats

Place 2lbs of either beef or chicken into a large covered casserole dish. Add 2-3 whole cloves of garlic and enough water so that the meat is completely submerged.

Microwave on high for 10-12 minutes. Flip meat over and stir. Microwave on high for another 7-8 minutes and viola! You have become a canine celebrity!

For stove tops: Add ingredients to a pot. Place the pot on the stove and steam until cooked. Extra broth can be added to kibble to further heighten your pet's delight.
