Lynn Nestman has spent the last few months refining a fantastic new curriculum for the enjoyment of the Coasts canine Tracking enthusiasts and their handlers! If your dog possesses a highly inquisitive nose this may be the sport for you! Scroll down for further information on class curriculum and location.
Beginner Class: While
training a the beginning level, the tracks will be short and clearly
marked. The dogs will be rewarded for keeping their nose to the ground
as small pieces of bait will be laid along the track at varying
intervals. Handlers will learn how to direct their dogs, and the
theory behind Tracking. Equipment basics will also be covered.
Intermediate and Advanced Class: At
the intermediate and advanced levels, tracks will vary in length and
complexity. Dogs will begin to work over a variety of different
surfaces such as cement, gravel, grass, and through wooded areas. Human quarry will also become a part of these more advanced lessons.
Beginner classes are held on location at The K9 Club field. Dogs training at the advanced and intermediate levels will be asked to travel to a variety of different locations up and down the coast. For example, we often lay track on school playing fields and in many of our
community's wilderness trails/recreational parks.
